How it's calculated
Length, weight and volume conversions go through a base unit. Each unit has a fixed factor to that base, so the value is multiplied by the source factor and divided by the target factor.
Length uses metres, weight uses grams, and volume uses millilitres as their base units.
Temperature is different because the scales have different zero points. Values convert to Celsius first (F to C is (F - 32) x 5/9, K to C is K - 273.15) and then out to the target scale.
